Sanitation
It is difficult to make your property completely unacceptable for all pests, but you
can minimize the potential for infestation or help to control an existing problem by
paying particular attention to sanitation.
As a rule...
• Do not leave food out over night.
• Keep food stored in a refrigerator or in containers with tight-fitting covers.
• Do not leave pet food and water out overnight.
• Do not leave dirty dishes in the sink or dishwasher for long periods of time.
• Clean food or spills from counter tops, sinks and tables with soapy water.
• Vacuum cracks and crevices and sweep or vacuum food and debris from floors.
• Take trash out daily and store in tightly sealed containers.
• Keep trash barrels and waste containers washed and clean.
• Wash recyclable cans and bottles and remove them from the property regularly.
• Ventilate areas where moisture or condensation are present.
• Seal cracks and voids with caulking were insects may inhabit.
• Repair leaky water pipes or faucets to eliminate moisture.
